Downtown Opportunity Showcase

On April 23, 2016, the Downtown Opportunity Committee of Huntingdon Landmarks, Inc. will hold its Downtown Opportunity Showcase. It is free and open to the public. The day kicks off at the Huntingdon County Library with business start-up workshops. The schedule is as follows:

9:00 Huntingdon’s Business Climate and Market Research Data
10:00 Owning, Leasing, or Investing in Real Estate for your Business
11:00 Historical Preservation & the Tax Credit Application Process
1:00 The Entrepreneurial Equation
2:00 Retail Start-Up Strategies and Resources
3:00 Social Media for Small Business

There will also be an interactive display at the Library entitled “ReInvision Huntingdon” on which visitors can write their ideas for spaces in our community.

The capstone event, our business pitch competition, begins at 4:00 pm at the Clifton 5 Theater. It brings investors together with local entrepreneurs. In addition to cash prizes of $500, $250, and $100 for the top three participants, investors have the opportunity to partner with the entrepreneurs to grow their businesses.

There are 5 participants who will be pitching business ideas ranging from vacation rentals to liquid fertilizer production. The investor panel includes a bank executive, several entrepreneurs, and a former college president.
