Art Walk Huntingdon Returns October 15, 2020

When: Thursday, October 15, 2020, 5-8 PM
Where: Standing Stone Coffee Co. and Juniata College Museum of Art, Huntingdon, PA

We are proud to announce after a 7 month hiatus that Art Walk Huntingdon is back for the month of October, 2020!

We’ve restructured a bit and Art Walk will be concentrated on 2 venues in uptown Huntingdon with careful physical distancing protocols.

Standing Stone Coffee Company will be hosting live music in its courtyard along with an artist marketplace. The Huntingdon County Arts Council will be on-hand giving free kid’s Art Walk t-shirts with a station to decorate them with fabric paint and markers. The t-shirts are provided by Huntingdon Landmarks, Inc. through funds raised by previous Art Walks.

The Juniata College Museum of Art is hosting two outdoor activities. The MudJunkies Ceramics Club invites attendees to purchase and glaze greenware which will be fired on-site in a Raku Kiln. There will also be a blacksmithing demonstration as well as other activities.

We encourage all participants to wear masks and/or face shields during the event, and they are absolutely required when entering the buildings.

February Art Walk Huntingdon

Art Walk Huntingdon will take place on the third Thursday of every month with the next one on February 21, 2019 during the hours of 5:00-8:00 PM. This month’s Art Walk features interactive art experiences, exhibitions of a historical master artist as well as student art and a celebration of Black History Month.

The February 21st Art Walk includes:

• Gage Mansion presents “The Art of Tea” with innkeepers Aiden and Alorra
• Mimi’s Restaurant & Martini Bar
• Huntingdon County Arts Council invites you to join artist Meghan Yale to Create Your Own Moving Line Art.
• Huntingdon County Library elementary-aged art club at the library 6-7 PM.. The library plans to hold the meetings the evening of Art Walk, so that kids can drop in. Help get the club started with some crafting nights and then possible offer some more specific classes, etc.
• A.C. Darby Studio
• American Legion Post 24 invites guests to make colorful Suncatchers with tissue paper & laminating sheets. Hot dogs and homemade potato soup will be available for donation.
• Payne Church Fellowship Hall (719 Moore Street): The Huntingdon County Juneteenth Celebration Committee will showcase the African American history of Huntingdon in recognition of African American History Month. There will be a display of African American quilts, African clothing and art work, books, pictures and other items, including a display of a painting by John Chaplin, a native of Huntingdon from the 19th century. John is an ancestor of the Harris family which holds its annual family reunion in Huntingdon over the Labor Day weekend (This will be the 80th year for the reunion).
• Standing Stone Coffee Co. – Meet the student artists from Huntingdon Area School District
• MudJunkies Ceramic Club invites participants participate in a community tree mosaic located on the exterior of the Juniata College Ceramics Studio in the Sill Business Incubator. This is a free event that includes glazing pre-bisqued leaves.
• Juniata College Museum of Art – Printmaking activity and Rembrandt exhibit

The October 18th Art Walk includes:
Huntingdon Area High School Auditorium: The Art Department at Huntingdon Area School District is proud to host a collaborative, cultural event for Huntingdon’s October Art Walk! Along with our Related Arts Spanish Educators, we welcome the community to explore Mexican heritage and the holiday known as Dia de los Muertos. We will provide historical and cultural information, decorations, music, authentic food to sample (while supplies last!), and several art activities for the community to enjoy. Art specific activities include, creating festive chalk drawings inspired by the holiday. Participants may also create a paper marigold to keep, or add to our Ofrenda, the area of remembrance. Finally, we plan to have sugar skull candy available for decorating.

Juniata College Beeghly Library – Attendees will have the opportunity to read scary short stories and tales of terror and then write their own! Special guest: author Nicholas Galante will be on-hand ready to talk about his favorite stories or offer suggestions on writing.

Juniata College Museum of Art – in conjunction with the UK’s Big Draw month-long drawing event, the theme is “Play” – via drawing.

MudJunkies Ceramics Club at Juniata College Ceramics Studio: Fall themed Raku DIY glazing, then Mudjunkies will fire in Raku Kiln for you to pick up about 45 minutes later!

Standing Stone Coffee Co. -Meet the Artist,Mary Beth Wiseman, Painted Wood Relief Artist and create your own Latte art.

Huntingdon Event Center invites participants to make and take Halloween themed crafts.

From 5 to 6 pm the two teams will compete in a series of to be announced library themed challenges. From 6 to 8 pm the public will be welcome to try the games individually or as part of a team.

Huntingdon County Arts Council: Flux exhbit. Haven Tucker’s current art practice, as well as he himself, exists in a state of flux, and as such defining what he does as an artist is complicated. He is very interested in the relationship that materiality and the environment have, and the interconnections between our social understandings of materials and the way we segregate and compartmentalize materials into resources. By defining something as a resource we establish it as valuable. Haven finds that the way value is assigned to materials to be especially interesting and in his art he attempts to question the true value of a resource or object through juxtaposition with its source material.

The June 21st Art Walk includes:

• Juniata College L.A. Beeghly Library: Beeghly Library is excited to join the Art Walk Huntingdon and for our first event, see if you can solve the mystery. We will also have selected mysteries from our circulating collection on display. L.A. Beeghly Library – Juniata College ‘s main entrance faces the campus quadrangle. Parking is available on Moore St and the parking lot at the corner of Moore St and 19th St.
  • Children’s Mystery: Mr. Clifford H. Books has lost his glasses and cannot work without them. Can you help him retrace his steps to find them?
  • Adult Mystery: Professor Francis Harley Brembagger willed his estate to Juniata College, but its location was a closely guarded secret. Help Zoe Trope, art professor and Margot Colophon, librarian, work through the will and other documents to find the location.
  • (The stories, names, characters, and incidents portrayed in these mysteries are fictitious. No identification with actual persons (living or deceased), places, buildings, and products is intended or should be inferred).

• Huntingdon Event Center at Midtown Gateway Commons: Free 50’s themed crafts for kids, enjoy a tour of the Event Center, and purchase tickets for At the Hop!

• A.C. Darby Studio, located at 417 Penn Street in Huntingdon, and join the famous Becca Bluebird of Bluebird Designs for a creation session! She will be manning the studio while Andrea is away. She will have an assortment of canvases, wine glasses, wooden boxes & wooden shapes! Use your imagination and let her guide you!
• Gage Mansion is hosting a fundraising party for the Huntingdon Arts Council, a Summer Solstice Party! Join us Thursday, June 21st starting at 5pm for music, bar-b-que, select artists selling their artwork, and support a great cause! Tickets are $15 per person. Children 10 and under are free. Juniata College Ceramics Studio/Mud Junkies Ceramics Club is hosting a bingo event for Art Walk. Each winner will also be given a ceramic prize that is fall themed. Each bingo card will cost 1 dollar and each game should take roughly a half an hour. We will also be having a raffle where the winner gets one of BJ Watson’s big bowls
